Rough Cut Lab is a workshop for editors with the aim of discussing the narrative construction in the editing process and the role of the editor in the creation of a film.

ROUGH CUT LAB PROGRAM 2020

Two Brazilian documentary projects in post-production and a grupo of 25 editors (observers) participate in workshop with the editor. Tutor to be defined.

The program will be held online, between October 26th – 28th.

MASTER CLASS – edition

During one session, we’ll dive into specialist editor’s work and thoughts.

EXHIBITION AND ANALYSIS I project 1

The focus of this will be the analysis of the selected project, establishing a dialogue between the editors, filmmakers and the tutor.

DIALOGUE WITH EDITORS

The tutor will address the conceptual aspects of the editing work in a documentary, and will propose strategies to find and build the story from the raw material.

Participation Fee for observers: R$220,00-

Accreditation as observers give access to:

  • -Feedback session with a specialist editor about the film project stage.
  • -Master Class of Editing, activity of projects exhibition and analysis, activity of dialogue with editors.
  • -General accreditation for DOCSP Seminars

Brazil, 2017. Driven by the impact of coming across a 16mm film whose uncanny images seemed familiar but came from far away and long ago, we decided to investigate the origins of this anonymous material. Working from elements proper to the footage’s narrative, we made a research based on contemporary tools and platforms. Among sinister discoveries and unavoidable gaps, we now reveal the results of our endeavor.

The project is an offshoot of audiovisual research initiated in a short film format, made from the same material found. We were awarded the Estímulo Award for supporting the short film 2019.

From light to the Valley is a documentary about the fight of territory in the biggest city in Latin America. The movie reflects the structural violence of the state and the real state speculation in a confront with the minorities socially exclude. The community Guarani – Mbya and the artist who occupy downtown, fighting for a ecologic inclusive and conscious city.
